We have a passion for animals and are deeply saddened by animal negligence/cruelty. So yesterday we decided that we would volunteer to feed the cats at Agios Neophytos Monastery in Tala. The monastery monks kindly donated a piece of land in order for the cats to have a place they call “home” – little house shelters were also donated by good Samaritans to ensure the cats keep warm in the cold winter.
Unfortunately people have been abandoning more & more unwanted cats at the site thinking it is an animal shelter – the purpose of these grounds were purely for the housing of the monastery cats. This resulted in a higher demand for food and with the number of volunteers decreasing due to the economic climate it has presented a challenge in keeping these cats happy with full tummies.
People with unwanted cats should contact Paphiakos who specialise in Animal Welfare and not drop them off at the Monastery. The cats at the Monastery are an established group and new cats bring diseases & viruses that can be to the detriment of the group. Kittens rarely survive in this environment as their immune system is not strong enough to fight off these diseases & viruses.
Play a part in keeping these cats alive, happy & fed. Anyone can go feed the cats at your own time and for more serious volunteers check out www.talamonasterycats.com.
We’ll be visiting them on a weekly basis – so if you see us there, come over and say “hi”.
We would love to meet fellow animal lovers.
Starting off with some “action” shots 🙂
These are the shelters that have been donated.
